Through the course of continuously evolving our governance, the following internal practices and guidelines have emerged as tools to create and manage a balanced workplace based on identified needs and challenges.
These guidelines are more like kind requests of each other as opposed to being "required." Like with all things, we trust each other to do our best, and recognize the differences in approaches and comfort zones in the way we work. These guidelines also reflect the generally accepted work culture that SELC collectively intends to create or practices that some staff request that others adopt. Thus, there is a social expectation to follow, use, and respect these practices and guidelines as much as possible.
How to Introduce a Practice or Guideline
Any Circle can adopt a practice or guideline through the proposal process. That Circle should then add it to this document (and put the Circle’s initials in parentheses next to the title) and inform all staff by communicating it via a “PLEASE READ:” email. Any staff can comment or propose amendments to any other practice or guideline.
Converting a Practice or Guideline into a Policy (or vice versa)
Any staff can bring a proposal to convert a practice or guideline into a Policy. This proposal should be brought to a General Circle meeting. Conversely, any staff can bring a proposal to convert a Policy into a practice or guideline. This should be brought to one of the empowered sub-circles indicated with a parentheses next to the title of the Policy or at a General Circle meeting.
