This wiki contains the Law Center's internal policies and core practices. All of these policies and core practices have been created using our collaborative consent-based decision making process. It is also a living, evolving document. We regularly review, update, add, and remove policies as our collective needs shift.
Our policies outline the collectively determined rules of the organization. They anchor down our values, provide certain guarantees for staff, and ensure a basic level of organizational alignment. Policies are things like the 30 hour work week, Childcare Benefits, and Letters of Support for External Initiatives.
Our Core Practices describe the ways in which we collaborate and coordinate our work flow. Using core practices like Circle Structure, Facilitating Meetings, Collective Inquiry, and Daily Task Updates allow us to work as a team without needing top-down control from a boss.
If our organization was a basketball team: The policies would be the boundaries of the court and the rules the referee enforces. The core practices would be the plays and formation the team runs.
If our organization was a dance party: The policies would be the building and the dance floor. The core practices would be established dance steps (like salsa, waltz, or swing) and the rhythm of the music.
We offer this to the public as an example of one organization's internal policies, not necessarily as recommendations that your organization should copy. There is a story behind every policy here, and our stories may not be relevant for your organization. That said, many of our policies and practices have been informed by learning from and with other organizations.
