Ridwan N.

Week of November 21st, 2022

Ridwan N.

Downsview, for the week of November 21st, it is a pleasure to announce that Ridwan is your Student of the Week. Ridwan is in the twelfth grade at Downsview.

Let’s get straight to the praise for Ridwan. First off from her nominator, Mr. Wallace: “Ridwan has begun to understand what she's got, what she has to offer. She has always been a strong student, but she decided a while back to shake off shyness; she decided that being quiet didn't suit her anymore. Now, she has become a leader and a voice at Downsview. Whether it's taking on the role of MC or workshop leader at Tools of Possibility, or reading the announcements with confidence, or making an impact in class, her voice is heard. What kind of a voice? Strong, optimistic, organized, clear. Her growing confidence comes from discovering how much more enjoyable it is to step up, step in. Not that it is always easy; speaking up takes work, effort. But here's the thing: as strong a voice as she's developing, she remains herself: kind, gentle, curious. She knows there is time to step into the light, but there are also times to be quiet and do the work. She's finding the balance and it is a beautiful thing to see.

And from Mr. Ramnaraine: “I first met Ridwan in Gr. 9 when she wanted to get involved in our Library Council. She volunteered a lot of her time to continue to make the library the amazing space it is. She also volunteered to read to the children from the daycare down the hall. She was nervous at first but quickly overcame her fears as she saw those cute little faces come into the library. We hear her voice weekly on the announcements as she continues to be an invaluable member of our Radio club. Now, in her final year at Downsview, her leadership has evolved immensely. She confidently took charge as MC at the Tools of Possibility Conference. Continue to do amazing things Ridwan! We are so proud of you!

Hear this from Ms. Veoli: “I have had the pleasure of getting to know Ridwan in her involvement in the library community, as well as through the Girls' Book Club.  Ridwan's got a certain quiet strength to her.  She is kind and funny, but is still able to express her thoughts in a way that is strong and clear.  She has often contributed thoughtful ideas and heartfelt insights about the books we read, and her voice is one that is valued among her peers.  Ridwan, you're going to do wonderful things, and it's our pleasure to be a part of that journey!”

And finally from Mr. Lewin: “Ridwan is a remarkable student and human being. She has made an invaluable contribution to the Downsview  family  over  the past four years . To begin with, Ridwan is an honour roll student  who has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to her studies. Ridwan believes in the power of community service. She is currently an active member of the widely successful  young women 's book club at Downsview. She  also played a leadership role in the student led Tools of Possibilities conference.

In closing, the Downsview family is so very proud of all that you have accomplished. We wish you all the best in your future endeavours. Love bless  to you, and all of your relations.

Ridwan, strength comes in many forms. Yours may be quieter, but there is no question that the self-reflection you have nurtured is paying dividends. We see your power. We see your strength. Congratulations, Ridwan. You have earned the title: Student of the Week.
