Week 5

Anh L.

Week of October 24th, 2022

Anh L.

Downsview, for the week of October 24th, it is a pleasure to announce that Anh is your Student of the Week. Anh is in the twelfth grade at Downsview.

Let’s get right to the praise for Anh. Ms. Lee says: “Last year, I met Anh at our first Truth and Reconciliation meeting. She listened and shared amazing ideas and helped to bring them to life. She continued to do this, this year. The Truth and Reconciliation Gallery Walk was Anh's idea. She helped to create the content, helped fundraise and set up the Gallery Walk in the school. It was a great learning experience for our school community to learn about the residential school system and share their thoughts and ideas of what we can do next. Congratulations and thank you Anh, for bringing your contagious excitement and energy in all you do!  Keep up the great work!”

From Mr. Ramnaraine: “I see Anh most days in the library during her spare. She is kind, hard-working (both in and out of school) and is a great friend to her peers. I was really impressed to see her leadership skills in action during the Tools of Possibility Conference as she co-led a workshop on Computer Science for Gr. 8 students. She was amazing! Congratulations on this well deserved award Anh!”

Here’s what Mr. Lewin has to say: “Anh is an outstanding student who is doing exceptionally well in and out of the classroom.  She is an Honour roll student scholar who strongly believes in giving back to her community.  Her warm, thoughtful and compassionate nature has inspired her peers to make a positive difference in the world. Anh Le is a member of the Filipino Club. Her contributions to the club have been immeasurable. Congratulations,  once again, for winning student of the week. The Downsview family wishes you nothing but success and joy in all of your future endeavours.

Lastly, from Mr. Wallace: “Of course Anh is highly intelligent, insightful and productive. So many Downsview students are. But with Anh there is an added dimension, a quality of leadership. It begins with her optimism, her can-do spirit. This energy in her makes others feel safe to take on challenges, often big ones. She lends others her confidence that every problem has a solution; that chaos is just a phase before a plan and order arrive. Watching her organize during Tools of Possibility or in English class is a master class of leadership. But don't make the mistake that any of this is just easy for her. Anh understands the juggle, the demands of competing interests and not just in a never-let-them-see- you-sweat kind of way; she understands that leadership requires choices. And sometimes those choices are not quite perfect. What Anh demonstrates, though, is the decision to always try. It is the energy that moves her forward; it's also the energy that moves the world. As she continues in her development as a leader, we will all benefit. We are lucky to have her among us.”

Ahn, you heard it here, loud and clear. Words like “leader”, “awesome”, “problem-solver” and “generous” are you. Congratulations again, Anh - this is why you have earned the title, Student of the Week.
