Downsview, for the week of January 9th, it is a pleasure to announce that Jumel is your first Student of the Week for 2023. Jumel is in the tenth grade at Downsview.


Let’s get straight to the praise for Jumel. From Ms. Sonia aka Ms. Sunshine who nominated Jumel: “From last year to this year the growth and maturity in leadership skills is amazing. I’ve seen you on many occasions delegate, inspire and communicate effectively with your  peers. Continue to grow young man and you will reach high places.”


Here’s what Mr. Lewin has to say: “Jumel is a grade 10 student scholar who is  making an invaluable contribution to the Downsview school community. Jumel Caesar is a  compassionate young man who is truly determined to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Jumel is currently in Downsview's Africentric program. Jumel has a passion for grade 10 Canadian Ourstory.  In addition, Jumel is an active  member of the Downsview's Black Student Alliance. We are so proud of all that you have  accomplished to date, Jumel. Continue to pursue excellence both within and outside of the classroom with vigour.”


Ms. Reid says: “Jumel is a dedicated student who takes responsibility for his learning. He is eager to share how his personal interests, particularly basketball, correlate to topics discussed in our course, and effortlessly creates a welcoming space for his peers to do the same. Jumel is incredibly cooperative, well-mannered, insightful, and has a positive attitude that lights up and compliments our classroom community.


Congratulations on winning student of the week, Jumel! You are truly deserving of this acknowledgement.”


Here this from Ms. Persaud: “Jumel is a cheerful student who enjoys helping others. He regularly participates in class discussions and is not shy to ask for clarification if needed. He has shown increasing progress academically and proves hard work and commitment lead to success. Congratulations Jumel and keep up the good work!”


And lastly from Mr. Ramnaraine: “Students are usually pretty happy when they learn of their award but Jumel was next level. He was so excited and so happy to learn of this achievement as he should be. Jumel is a member of the Boys2Men program. He is a kind and positive person. Last summer he participated in the Fifty for Free summer basketball program. He returned this September not only a better basketball player but with a whole new mindset - to work hard and to motivate others. He is doing this on and off the court. Congratulations Jumel!


Well, Jumel, you heard it here. Your positivity, your dedication and leadership have earned you this award. Congratulations again, Jumel, you are a very deserving Student of the Week.
