Student of the Week
Week 32

Elhiana M.

Downsview, for the week of May 29th, your Student of the Week is Elhiana M.
Elhiana is in the ninth grade at Downsview.

If you’ve been listening carefully, you may have noticed that the majority of our Student of the Week recipients are in the eleventh or twelfth grade. This isn’t a coincidence. Students who have been with us longer have simply had more time to show us their character, their strengths. And so, when a ninth grade student earns this title, it is just a little more special.

Let’s hear about Elhiana from her nominators, starting with Mr Wallace: “Elhiana is really smart. Okay. Nice. Lots of people are smart. But she uses her intelligence to watch and learn. She is quiet and humble, but don't underestimate her power. After she watches and learns, she does. She uses her gifts to write insightful, moving poetry one day, contribute to the robotics team another, and lend her labour in the garden the next. Her capacity to focus, her ability to care, her tendency to appreciate, her willingness to give of her time and effort are further gifts she is developing and sharing with others. Grade 9 is a start; she's going to continue to excel as a student and as a human being and we are better for it.”

And, hear this, from Mr Syal: “I had the pleasure of teaching  Elhiana. She is a very hard-working student. She is significantly persistent until she gets the concept. Elhiana is part of the robotics team. She helped the team by organizing tools and ensuring the environment was safe. At tournaments, she scouted other teams and spoke with judges. She is the future of Downsview, and I encourage her to continue to take risks.”

From Ms Susnik: “El is a conscientious, hard-working student who is self-motivated. She consistently completes homework assignments and puts her best effort into everything she completes.  El exceeds expectations with the quality of her work. Congratulations on being Student of the Week.”

And, Mr Lewin says: “Congratulations, Elhiana, for winning Student of the Week. Your commitment to achieving excellence both within and outside the classroom is commendable. Your positive attitude towards learning serves as an inspiration to your peers. Moreover, we are so proud of you for being an honour roll student who understands the importance of giving back to others.  As you near the completion of grade 9, the Downsview community is confident that the sky is truly the limit in terms of what you will achieve in the future. In closing, you are a remarkable student scholar and human being. Keep up the superlative work!”

And finally, from Ms Sonia: “Elhiana you're awesome!! You're a dedicated and essential part of the garden and art club. You are a force that shines. Keep on your amazing path and you will achieve amazing things in life.”

Elhiana, you heard it here. In less than a year, you have forged a golden place for yourself at the heart of Downsview, demonstrating investment in your studies and in our school community. We salute you, Elhiana, our Student of the Week.
