Week 4

Julia R.M.

Week of October 17th, 2022

Julia R-M.

Downsview, for the week of October 17th, it is a pleasure to announce that Julia is your Student of the Week. Julia is in the twelfth grade at Downsview.

Let’s get straight to the praise for Julia. From Ms. Susnik: “Julia is a quiet confident leader who is always willing to take on a challenge. She can be found taking charge and leading a group of students both on the field and in the classroom. Julia exemplifies everything it takes to be a student of the week. Congratulations Julia!”

From Mr. Ramnaraine: “I have got to know Julia as she spends much of her spare time in our school library. She has such a positive attitude, is hard-working, is an incredible leader as we witnessed first hand during the Tools of Possibility Conference and is a great friend to her peers. Congratulations Julia!

And from Mr. Wallace, her nominator: “How do you step into leadership? It's a question we all have to ask. It's scary - the responsibility, the worry about failure, of letting people down, of being judged. But sometimes you just have to step in because the project is worth doing. Julia is a strong, dynamic person who is no longer content to sit on the sidelines. She wants to contribute, she wants to stretch her skills and strengthen her self-belief. I have seen this particularly in her role helping to organize the Tools of Possibility Conference. She has taken a huge risk. She could have walked away, but she hasn't. Awesome.

Let’s hear what Mr. Henriques has to say: “I had the pleasure of teaching Julia in my Travel and Tourism class last year. Always filled with positivity and a great attitude, Julia excelled in the class right from the start. Julia has a bright future ahead and I truly hope she achieves her future aviation dreams.”

Ms. Lee says: “Julia has made her mark here at Downsview in a short time. It's been a pleasure getting to know Julia this year. We met in my Aesthetics class where she struck me as someone who knows what they want in life. Julia has set a path for herself and is determined to accomplish her goals. She is driven. Even though Julia has many obligations in and out of school, she finds the time to participate in many activities. When Julia commits, she commits. Her work ethic to fulfil her commitments is bar none. I was very impressed by her work for the Tools of Possibilities conference. She prepared much of the presentation for the Cosmetic Science - Skin Deep maker space and she handled the session with confidence and poise. Julia has a bright future ahead of her and I feel honoured to have the opportunity to have worked with her. Congratulations, Julia!”

And lastly from Mr. Lewin: “Julia is a remarkable student who has a limitless desire to make a positive difference in the Downsview school community and wider society. Case in point, the leadership role that she played in the planning and implementation of the hugely successful youth led  tools of possibilities conference at Downsview which attracted over 165 grade 8 student scholars from a number of school communities. This incredible  initiative powerfully highlighted STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) excellence at Downsview and the importance of Equity  and  social justice. Julia is a true go-getter whose commitment to serving others is truly inspiring.”

Julia, you heard it here, and you heard it repeated by many. You are a valued leader at DSS. You have earned the title: Student of the Week.
