Downsview, for the week of April 3rd, your Student of the Week is Ivan P.
Ivan is in the twelfth grade at Downsview.

Ivan’s nomination has been in the works for some time. Some nominees wait a little longer while we honour students for timely contributions to our school. There was never a doubt, however, that this wonderful, smart, involved, all-round good person would be honoured with this award.

Here we go, with words from Mr Henriquez first: “I had the pleasure of coaching Ivan over the last two seasons on the boys basketball team. Ivan's positive energy and attitude brought a strong dynamic to the team and was felt amongst his teammates. His competitive nature and basketball sense were also top notch. Going forward, I know Ivan will accomplish whatever he puts his mind to in life.”

And from Mr Hum: “Although I haven't known Ivan for very long, I've come to learn that he has a positive attitude and a great sense of humour. Ivan is a very hard worker and a pleasure to have in class. Congrats Ivan and keep up the great work!”

Ms Veoli adds: “I had the privilege of teaching Ivan in ESLE last semester.  Don't let his quiet demeanor fool you.  This young man is absolutely hilarious.  He finds a way to laugh at things and get you to laugh along with him.  He also puts his very best forward with his work and is willing to make himself vulnerable by sharing his story and experiences.  Ivan, you are a positive force, and can do anything you set your mind to.  I can't wait to see how things continue to unfold for you! “

Hear this, from Mr Lewin: “Ivan is a hard-working grade 12 student scholar who has a deep concern for the well-being of others. He is a member of the Filiipino student leadership group. His  thoughtful, respectful, and hopeful nature has not gone unnoticed. Ivan is an honour roll student scholar, committed to achieving excellence both within and outside the classroom. He was also an important member of Downsview's Senior Boys basketball team. In addition, Ivan is a strong advocate for experiential learning and its power to transform the lives of youth. Ivan,  as you near the end of your high school journey , the Downsview family wishes you nothing but joy, love and success in all of your future endeavours. Congratulations for winning Student of the Week!”

Ivan, you are clearly a much-loved member of the Downsview community. Your character is having a great impact inside and outside the classroom. Congratulations once again on earning the title: Student of the Week.
