Week 22

Jelani F.

Downsview, for the week of March 20th, 2023, your Student of the Week is Jelani F. Jelani is in the twelfth grade; he will graduate in June.

Jelani’s nomination for this award is timely. He has recently competed with the Downsview Robotics Team, with great success. Let’s hear from one of his mentors, Mr Syal, first: “This is my first year teaching Jelani.  I am very impressed with his dedication to his education.  He works very hard and diligently.  He carries the same excitement into the robotics club.  In the past month, he has grown to be a leader of the team.  During the robotics tournament at Georgian College, he stepped up his game, and the entire audience was impressed with his driving skills.  With every match, the confidence of the team grew. I wish Downsview could see how he goes out to perform against other teams.  I want to wish Jelani the best of luck with his future endeavours.”

From Mr Phillips: “Jelani is a kind hearted and intelligent individual. He is always eager to figure out the answer to any chemistry question I give him! I knew that Jelani was talented, but didn't truly understand until I saw him driving the Full Metal Mustangs' newest competition robot. He is highly skilled and seems to drive the bot at high speeds with such ease. His dedication to the team is superb, staying late to work on the bot or showing up early to get a task done. He is the consummate teammate! Congrats on being Student of the Week.”

And, from Mr Hum: “Jelani is a hard working young man who always puts 100% towards the task at hand. Jelani is also a very friendly person, just ask all his peers who all say he's a genuinely nice guy. Congrats Jelani! Keep up the great work.”

Hear this, from Mr Wallace: “Jelani is a doer. He is a troubleshooter. He is a lateral thinker. He is an enthusiast. He is one of the most cheerful people I know. He is quick with a smile, because he sees the good in life, the possibility in opportunity. Watching him develop his mastery of the robotics portfolio has been a joy. Jelani is one of those people you want on your team when the environment is fast-moving and dynamic. When presented with a challenge, he accepts it! "Let's try this." Or "Why don't we try that?" Or. "I'll try." Jelani is a smart optimist; by his example, he teaches anyone who wants to learn how to follow the Jelani way!”

From Mr Lewin: “Jeliani Fraser is a born leader with an unabashed passion for science and robotics. He is a passionate , collaborative and insightful young man who has exemplary problem-solving and technological skills.  Currently,  Jelani is on Downsview's award-winning Robotics  team.  He played an instrumental role in helping Downsview to make it to the quarter finals. At a recent tournament, he was one of the robot conductors. Jelani plans to attend university and incorporate his skills and abilities to  enrich the lives of others. The Downsview family is proud of you for all that you have accomplished to date. Congratulations for earning the Student of the Week Award.”

From Mr. Ramnaraine: “Jelani, it has been amazing to see your growth over the last four years. You have emerged into quite the leader. This has been quite evident with your amazing work in Robotics, your dedication to the Boys2Men program and your positive presence amongst your peers. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement!”.

And finally, from our Principal, Ms Elwin: “Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the Robotics team, Jelani. I know you have volunteered many hours working on the robot while still focusing on your school work. You are a quiet young leader in the school and I look forward to seeing all the amazing things you can do. Congrats.”

Jelani, you heard it here. You are admired for many fine qualities inside and outside the classroom. Downsview is lucky to have you, Jelani. Congratulations once again on your win as Student of the Week.
