Student of the Week
Week 31

Vi V.

Downsview, for the week of May 22nd, your Student of the Week is Vi V.
Vi is in the eleventh grade at Downsview.

This is not Vi’s first time receiving this award, and all signs indicate that it may not be her last. Vi is vibrant. Vi is a do-er. Vi operates at the heart of our school.

Let’s hear first from Ms Lee: “It has been a true privilege getting to know Vi over the past 2 years. In the classroom, she is a true leader. She has the ability to observe and assist if there is a student in need of support. She is kind, friendly and helpful. Vi had a large voice in our cross-curricular initiative; SHEI Benefits Self-Care Line. She lent her hand, made suggestions, supported students and took action when needed. Vi had her eyes on every piece of the project. She took ownership, which led her to become the general manager. I trusted Vi's judgement and her leadership.

Vi, you had my back. I see you and appreciate you. You have a bright future ahead as an entrepreneur and look forward to seeing you flourish.Thank you for being you! Congratulations on winning Student of the Week!”

And, from Ms Sunshine, also known as Ms Sonia: “Congrats to my little entrepreneur, striving hard for success. Vi is a go-getter, always getting things done. I love her morning visits. Keep doing what you are doing, you will achieve greatness, Vi!”

Ms de Jersey adds: “Vi does a lot, and she does it all well. Whether she is baking for an event, managing her peers as they prepare for the SHEI sale or getting work done in class, Vi is professional and consistently exercises her keen eye for detail. The fact that she is kind, friendly and fun is icing on the cake. I’m so glad we still have one more year of Vi!”

Hear this, from Mr Wallace: “Vi is kind, a good listener, and a great colleague. She makes everyone around her feel comfortable. But the thing that stands out is her ambition. It isn't loud in a look- at-me kind of way, but it is there. Is she waiting for anyone to tell her when and how to start a business? Absolutely not; she's doing it. If you ask about what she is building, she will tell you, but otherwise, she just gets on with it. She has the demeanour that people trust and she has the determination and attention to detail that ensures a successful business.”

And, from Mr Lewin: “Vi is an exceptional student scholar and human being who has blazed a trail of achievement during her time at Downsview. Currently Vi is in grade 11 and she is  an honour roll student scholar who has exhibited a steadfast commitment to excellence in and out of the classroom. Vi is a kind,  thoughtful and reflective student who radiates goodness. She is determined to enrich the lives of others through her words and deeds. As an avid reader, Vi is a member of the young women’s  book club at Downsview. Moreover, during the course of the school year, Vi has participated in a number of community-connected experiential learning communities. Vi, the Downsview family is inspired by your leadership. Congratulations on winning  Student of the Week!”

And, from Mr do Carmo: “Vi is a force of nature. She bites off more than most people can chew and she chews away. Vi is an amazing juggler. She always seems to have many things on the go and balances them with ease. It's amazing to see how Vi takes on a variety of tasks around the school and manages to get them all done. And, she does all this while maintaining excellent grades. An awesome student and all around great person and a well-deserving Student of the Week. Great job Vi.”

Vi, you heard it here. Your connection and engagement with your peers and with our community at large are seen, felt and appreciated. You have certainly earned the title: Student of the Week.
