Downsview, for the week of October 10th, it is a pleasure to announce that Jessica Tran is your Student of the Week. Jessica is in the twelfth grade at Downsview.


Let’s get straight to the praise for Jessica. From Mr. Phillips: “Jessica is truly one of a kind. She comes to class with a cheerful smile and is always ready to work. She's also heavily involved in many of the student-led activities in the school. Congrats on being this week's student of the week!”


And from Mr. Ramnaraine: “I first met Jessica last year when she signed up to be a part of the Library Council and she has been such an amazing asset. She is always giving up her time to support our entire school community. I have seen her in action supporting students in the peer tutoring program as well as her work with the Truth and Reconciliation Crew. She is incredible! She is kind, thoughtful and always willing to help. Jessica, you are such a valued member of our school community. Congratulations!


Here’s what Mr. Syal has to say “I had the pleasure of teaching Jessica for the past 4 years. Jessica has grown into a leader. She is on many committees.  She is part of the robotics team.  She is nominated to be the captain of the team. She is a role model for all Downsview students. I wish her best of luck with future endeavors.”


And from Principal Elwin: “Jessica is a hard working and dedicated student who goes above and beyond to make a positive contribution to the DSS community. She is a student leader in the school and played a major role in our Robotics club last year. She continues to volunteer her time in various initiatives throughout the school. Congrats on being nominated student of the week.”


Ms. Veoli says: “Jessica is a Joy!  Jessica is a Force!  You can see Jessica in all corners of the school, involved, supporting, and always with a smile.  I initially met Jessica when she joined the Girl's Book Club.  She exuded such joy at the sight of our first book, and her insights about the text were so thoughtful and always inspired great conversation within the group.  As the year progressed, she continued to exhibit her leadership qualities in the group, always providing incredible insights and displaying a true passion for the literature.  She applies the same excellence to so many of the other clubs at Downsview -Student council, robotics, and so much more.  Jessica, Downsview is lucky to have you as part of our community!  We look forward to seeing you thrive and continue to grow!!”


Mr. Lewin says: “Jessica has made an invaluable contribution to the Downsview community . She is an honour  roll student who is always willing  to help  those  who are in need ,  She played a   leadership  role in the Truth and Reconciliation events at Downsview. Moreover , she  is one of the  student scholars helping  to lead the  Stem conference at Downsview  next week entitled Tools of Possibilities . We are  so proud of all that you  have accomplished , Jessica . The sky is truly the limit . Keep up the exceptional work“.


And lastly from her nominator, Ms. Lee, “It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know Jessica the past two years. Jessica served as an instrumental partner of the Truth and Reconciliation Crews initiative over the past two years. She has been passionately involved with Truth and Reconciliation Week, Orange Shirt Day and the National Day of awareness for Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit People. If you know Jessica, you know she is caring and kind. It's easy to observe Jessica's generosity. She shares her ideas, her time, her ears and her knowledge. Jessica's calm, strong, responsible,and trustworthy nature make her an excellent leader and a good friend to many. Congratulations, Jess!  Your future is bright!


Jessica, the admiration for you spans this school. You are loved and respected here, and we see your deep value, as a student, as a mentor, as a person. Congratulations once again, Jessica. You have earned the title: Student of the Week.
