Week of November 28th, 2022
Shianna V.
Downsview, for the week of November 28th, it is a pleasure to announce that Shianna is your Student of the Week. Shianna is in the ninth grade at Downsview and is already beginning to make her mark!
Let’s get straight to the praise for Shianna. First off from her nominator, Mr. Henriques: “I had the pleasure to coach Shianna on the girls basketball team this year, she proved to be a great leader and wise beyond her years. Showing poise and tenacity along with great spirit she will be a pillar of the team going forward. Her kindness and fun loving spirit will serve her well in her remaining years at Downsview”
And from Ms. Peraud: “Even though I have only known Shianna for a few months through our gr. 9 Africentric English class, I can already tell she is a leader with limitless potential. Shianna is often quiet in class, but when asked to share her answers or participate in groups, she is always happy to contribute. From listening to her articulate her opinions in the Black Brilliance preparation sessions, it's hard to believe Shianna is only in grade 9! Shianna, I cannot wait to see your academic, personal and social growth! Keep up the great work!”
Let’s hear what Mr. Lewin has to say: “Shianna has made an invaluable contribution to the Downsview community in a relatively short period of time. She has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to excellence in the classroom. She is doing exceptionally well in a variety of subjects, eg., English , Math and Science. Shianna's work ethic and drive are truly commendable
Shianna has also left an indelible mark with respect to her involvement in co curricular activities. She was a key member of the young women's basketball team. Moreover, she is currently playing a leadership role in the upcoming Brilliance Conference.
In closing, Shianna, is a beacon of hope and inspiration to her fellow peers. Congratulations on winning student of the week!
And lastly from Mr. Ramnaraine, Kevin and Amita (a collective message): It has been amazing to see Shianna’s leadership in planning for the upcoming Black Brilliance conference. She is one of the very few Gr. 9 students that will be leading a workshop this year. Her presence has been felt and we cannot wait to see how her leadership and involvement in Black Brilliance will evolve in the upcoming years. Congratulations on this amazing achievement Shianna!
Shianna, you are going to do amazing things! We see you and we hear you! Congratulations! You have earned the title: Student of the Week.
