This course is a skills based course designed to equip Year 13 students with both knowledge of the past and skills necessary to succeed in Tertiary study.
Students of history develop a valuable set of skills that are transferrable to a range of careers, including: Research, Communication, Critical Thinking, Problem solving and the ability of students to interpret evidence and make judgements. This course also offers students the ability to gain the 14 credits needed for University Entrance. There is also the likelihood of a 2 night History Camp to Northland in Term 1
Two main topics - Students will initially research an aspect of New Zealand History between 1845 and 1872 - with the focus on how and why settlers were able to gain sovereignty over New Zealand.
Our second topic considers the end of World War Two, and in particular the decision of the United States to drop two Nuclear Bombs on Japan.
