Science is a way of investigating, understanding, and explaining our natural, physical world and the wider universe. It involves generating and testing ideas, gathering evidence – including by making observations, carrying out investigations, and communicating and debating with others – in order to develop scientific knowledge.
Credits in level 1 science are required for many apprenticeships and roles within military service. Level 1 Science is compulsory for all year 11 students, however students planning pathways with a science focus through year 12 and 13 (such as engineering, health science etc) should take Level 1 Physics and/or Level 1 Science (BioChem).
Students will study at least one external standard, either acids & bases or genetics. Internal standards will be studied from across the different strands of the science curriculum. These include practical investigations (Chemistry and Physics), volcanoes, microorganisms, life processes, the use of carbon fuels, ecosystems, heat in everyday life.
