Geography
Level 2
Level 1 Geography, History or Social Studies
Geography is the study of the earth and how people interact with it. You should take it if you’re interested in the world and curious about why certain things are the way they are.
Geography can lead to a wide range of careers, including: Urban Planner, Cartographer (map maker), travel and tourism, environmental jobs (primarily with the council, or research organisations), teaching, journalism.
In this course, you will: conduct research into the location of cafes in central Auckland; study the strengths and weaknesses of building a rail link to Auckland Airport; examine the pattern of people in the world living with HIV, and explain why that pattern exists; study the features of the Amazon Basin and how people interact with this large natural environment; study the differences in development between New Zealand and India and explain why these differences exist.
The course involves lots of writing, but also fieldwork (practical research), drawing and graphing.
