Level 2 Geography, History and/or Social Studies
Geography is the study of the earth and how people interact with it. You should take it if you’re interested in the world and curious about why certain things are the way they are. Geography can lead to a wide range of careers, including: Urban Planner, Cartographer (map maker), travel and tourism, environmental jobs (primarily with the council, or research organisations), teaching, journalism.
In this course, you will conduct research into the natural processes occurring around Muriwai beach and how the elements impact on these processes to create the unique features surrounding the beach.
A contemporary study of Human Trafficking is undertaken followed by the global study of the effects of Malaria around the world.
You will look closely at a contemporary event of regional significance, leading into the cultural processes that developed Rotorua as a tourist destination for travellers from around the world. For both the natural and cultural processes, you will look at the impact of each topic on the people and places for which they occur. This course involves a good understanding of essay writing, as well as fieldwork (practical research), drawing and graphing.
