Tonal square

Shading

SIZE: 4,25”, 4.25”

For the Tonal square project, I was given a small piece of paper that I had to enlarge using shading techniques. I used the shading techniques that I had learned in years past and some I was taught at the beginning of the project.

To draw my Tonal square I first divided my drawing paper into sections and did the same thing to the little piece I had to replicate. I then started making outlines of the darkest shade on my paper and then colored it in using graphite tools. I then did the same thing for the other three shades but I used harder shading pencils. I then took a tortilla and used it to blend some of my darker sections into the lighter ones. Then I took some time to make sure my shapes were correct and the same thing with my lines.

On my drawing, I started with the darkest shade and then went to lighter shades. But now that I am done I realized that I should have done it so that I did the lightest shade first
