For this project I made a scratchboard value strip and a scratchboard photo of my dog. To make the scratch board I used the black paper, the scraping tools, a pencil, a ruler, and an eraser. I also used my dog as a photo reference. I was able to easily make these scratchboards at home even without being in class.
To make the scratchboard I started with a photo reference. I chose a photo of my dog sitting on a couch. When I put the saturation at 0 the couch in the background turned black and my dog turned white. I could see a full range of color so I decided that it was good. I then printed it out. Once it was printed I gridded the photo into inch by inch squares. i then created the border on my paper and used a pencil to grid on my paper. Once that was done I went row by row matching as beat as I could. Once i was done I erased the grid lines and photographed it and put it in Artsonia.
Next time I would make the grid lines thinner. I was able to erase them but when I did the eraser seemed to leave an even bigger line in the paper. I would also spend more time on my dogs collar because it doesn't look that good.
