Tiles

For this project we had to make a mold and 4 tiles. For the design I wanted something geometrical so I though of doing something with circles. After some planing I had the final design which, when put together, makes a bunch of circles.

To make this I first started out my making my tile in a piece of clay. I started out with a flat slab and then cut out the design on another slab and put it on top. Once I smoothed out the tile and made it look how I wanted I put it in plaster. Once that had dried I took out the original tile. TO do that I started with the top layer which was easy because it was one slab. Then I took out the next layer which was harder because it was a bunch of smaller pieces that I had to take out slowly. Once I got all the clay out I smoothes out all the rough edges in the plaster before it dried out completely. Then once it fully dried I was able to start putting in clay and getting tiles out. Once the tiles had been bisque fired I was able to do a test glaze on one of the tiles to see which glaze I liked best. Then I glazed the rest of them.

I really like how this project turned out. It was fun to work with something new like plaster. If I had to do something different I probably would have chosen a more fun design that just something geometrical.
