Eccentric Teapot

Untitled presentation

For this project I was tasked to build a teapot. The design behind my teapot is a lobster buoy. The body and lid were based off of the body of the lobster buoy. The handle and spout were made to look like rope.

To create my teapot I started off with a slab to make the first part of the base. Once I got that together I used another piece of slap to make the angled part of the body. Once those were together I made the lid. To make the lid I used the pinch pot technique. Once that was done I flattened it out so that it would resemble the top of the bouy. Then I smoothed it out and made it so that the lid would fit nicely with the body. I then added a foot to the lid so that it would stay on the body. Once that was done I made the handle by taking two coils of clay and rolling them together to make it resemble rope. I then attached it to the body and used and exacto knife to add detail. I then used the same technique to make the spout only this time I cut it in half and hollowed it out. I then slipped and scored it back together and added it to the pot. I then added detail to the spout as well. Then, once it was fired, I glazed it. for the body I did 1/3 white and 2/3 blue. For the handle I did a stain with clear glaze over it.

If I were to do this project again I would shape the spout a bit differently and maybe add more detail to the body like algae or seaweed to make it look more real.
