Charcoal and Ink on Pastel Paper

The main idea that guided my artwork was to make a realistic drawing out of charcoal and ink. I wanted to make a piece of my dog, Enzo, I chose this picture because it had a simple background and also because I found the picture to be cute.  What I'm trying to show in my artwork is a realistic piece of art that resembles the picture that I had chosen.

How I created this artwork was first, finding a picture, this wasn't too difficult as I knew I wanted to draw my dog. Next, I printed out a picture of it and gridded it 1 inch by 1 inch. Then gridded my Pastel paper 2 inches by 2 inches. This would be different from what I am used to as I would be enlarging the original times 2. Now, I would go box by box matching what I saw in the picture to my art. I was using charcoal sticks, charcoal pencils, both black and white, an eraser, and a smoothing stick. For this project, I would need to draw a base and then keep adding layers and texture.

The idea I had when starting this project to when I was finished was the same because it would be realistic and once I chose the image and started drawing it, there was nothing I could change. What I had trouble with figuring out was how I would add texture to the fur, it still didn't come out exactly how I would like but it was better than I had imagined in the beginning.
