Sgraffito Clay

The main idea for my artwork was incorporating a water scene throughout a clay slab. I wanted my pieces to look peaceful and lovely. I wanted to create a scene that presented glowing water and a relaxing moment. I wanted to incorporated birds so I could show the peaceful aspect better.

The materials I used to create my pieces were a clay slab, cutting materials, such as a scooper and an exacto knife. I started by sketching on my block and outlining where to carve in pencil. After I completed that I started to carve into my blocks.

The process I went through to get to my final products was experimentation. I have never worked with sgraffito before so it was cool to try out all the tools and very satisfying. After finishing my pieces I really like sgraffito and I am happy with how everything turned out.
