Paper Mache, Cardboard

My piece took quite a turn as you can see. In my head i had the idea to make a lion head. I wanted to use paper mache for its mane and I thought it would be very fun. But as time was cracking down I knew I had to improvise. I decided to make a sunflower instead with many flower petals. The main idea of my artwork is just preserving natural beauty through creating something not difficult.

The materials I used were cardboard, paper mache, magazines, and news print. I first started by making a cut out head of a lion out of cardboard, I then adding newsprint all around the cardboard to make it thicker. I then used paper mache techniques to put my magazines onto the cardboard cut out. I then decided I did not have enough time to make a lion so I found some flower petals, and glued those down on the cardboard.

The process I went through was improvisation, and flexibility. I went into this thinking I was going to do a lions head, but I ended up with a sunflower. I used critical thinking to improvise with the skills I had, and the materials I could use. Although it was not what i was expecting, i had a really fun time creating this piece, and I am overall very happy with it.
