Charcoal, ink, and graphite on watercolor paper

For this piece, the main idea that guided my artwork was creating my dog, Chelsea. I tried to incorporate her curls and all her whiskers. And the way she was looking to the side and the angles of the photo. I tried to incorporate my shading and highlighting techniques in my final work.

For my materials, I used graphite, charcoal, white charcoal, and ink. I started out by sketching my drawing then I mostly stuck with charcoal and white charcoal. I would lay a base of black charcoal then lighten it up by putting white charcoal over it. I would use ink for the very dark places, like the nose and the eyes.

The process I went through was mostly just trusting the process. At first, I thought my drawing was too large to scale and too fluffy. But I decided to trust that I was drawing exactly what I saw box by box. And my drawing ended up turning out pretty well.
