Summative: For the second part of the assessment we were asked to choose an original image that had a full range on value and a focus. I traced some of the outlined features and then started on the nose and then worked my way outward and mainly focused on the highlights of the face at first. I kept the highlights light at first and then later scratched more to make the areas in which there were highlights lighter. I spent the majority of my scratching on the face to try and get the markings on the face precise and the correct value.
Formative: For this project we used scratchboard and learned to create values and textures on the scratchboard. For the first part of this assessment we had to make a value scale on a scratchboard that used different textures, patterns and techniques.
Reflection: Overall there are some things that I wish I had done differently. I wish that I had made everything a little bit lighter because I think the values are a bit off, but that is something that I can fix. Also, there are a few places where I either messed up on the direction of the fur or accidentally scratched in a place that was supposed to be completely black and it looks a bit messy and weird, which I do not like. In some places I like how I used different textures to differentiate fur from what was not fur, but I do not like the background. I like some parts of the background like where it is white, but when I was trying to do shadows and highlights it looks weird and messy. Overall, I think I did a good job, but there are still things that could be fixed and improved upon.
