First I was just trying to write Freeport Falcons and then I was going to go from there. Then when I was drawing the F I realized that it sort of looked like the wing of a falcon. As I kept drawing I made it into a cartoon looking falcon and then drew some patterns and colors that a falcon would be. Then I colored in the letters. I knew I wanted to make something related to more of the sports aspect of Freeport high school so I did Freeport falcons. I did this because I think a huge part of Freeport it's sports programs. For me sports is one of the first things I think of that is important to Freeport high school. I wanted to incorporate a falcon somewhere in the drawing so that is why I chose to make the F of both words into a falcon.
First I just started off with pencil in some places. After I was done with the sketch I went over the falcon with gel pen and did the patterns of the flacon in gel pen. After that I traced the letters of Freeport falcons over in sharpie. Finally, I used colored sharpie to make the falcon more of a maroon hue to match our school colors.
I just wrote the words down in different styles until I found that I liked the way block letters looked the best. Then I wrote the big F in a different pattern than the rest so it would stand out. I realized that the F I drew looked almost like a falcon of sorts so I decided to make it into a falcon. At first I had no intentions of incorporating the falcon like I did. I was just going to have it in the background or do something completely different. Then when I was drawing the block letters I realized that the F was sort of in the shape of a falcon so I made it into a falcon. Then I had to color in the letters of FREEPORT FALCONS in black because originally I only outlined them. My next steps could be cleaning up some of the lines to make my design more linear. Also, I think that I could probably have done my design digitally so it would be neater in general.
