Formative: For the first part of this project we had a little linoleum tile and we asked to use positive and negative space to convey something that are opposite images. I chose to do an image of a building that represented the city and a tree that symbolized the country. I printed it in black ink, and it took a lot of going back and carving to get a clean print. I used negative space for my tree meaning I carved out the shape of the tree. For the building I used positive space meaning I carved out the linoleum tile around the shape of the building. It took me at least four times to get the perfect print.
Summative: For the second part of the project we had to choose an image of ourselves that had an equal amount of black and white. I had a lot of trouble finding a balanced image that worked. When I finally found the right image I transferred it onto a linoleum tile. Carving the tile took me a while, but I did not run into many obstacles while I was carving. When I was printing I had a lot of issues with the paint drying too quickly so there were white spaces where there was not supposed to be. I solved this by putting more paint on the glass slates and really made sure the paint stuck to the paper while printing. The materials I used were paint, linoleum tile, carving tools, glass slates, for this project.
Reflection: Overall, I think I should have been more patient with with re-doing the prints because I had trouble with getting no white showing through. I feel like if I had re-printed a few more times I would not have encountered this problem. I like my artist print the most because in my opinion it is the most visually interesting to look at. Each of the prints are something about me the first extended print has stars drawn on it because I like night, my alternate background is Christmas wrapping paper because my favorite holiday is Christmas, and lastly, my last extended print has stripes because one of my favorite books when I was little was about a girl who had stripes and had to eat lima beans for them to go away. Overall, I like how my prints came out.
