Formative: For this project we first had to complete a secondary value scale to make sure we knew how to mix the colors to make proper shades and tints. A tint is a color on the color wheel to which you add white, and a shade is a color to which you add black. Also, it was good practice before the big project in this unit. At first, I struggled with making the acrylic paint even. I had it way darker and thicker in some places and then in others it was transparent and thin. After awhile I was able to fix this by simply paying attention to where I applied extra paint.
Reflection: One thing I wish I had done differently was to make the colors in the sky in a more organized order. I ran out of yellow and I had to wait a little bit before I could do my blue-green, so I had to reverse the spot I was going to put it. This makes it look a little more odd than I would have liked. Also, I don't really like how some of the shades turned out and I think I did a little too much of them in some places. I really do like how the grass on the hills turned out because I feel like it has a nice texture to it. Also, I like how my abstract idea came out. Overall I like my project, but I feel like I rushed the details in a few places and it could be improved upon.
Summative: For the big project we had to use 84 colors, (the color wheel plus three shades and three tints of each). For tools I used a detail paint brush and a bigger paintbrush, and a palette knife to mix the colors together. Initially, I had absolutely no idea what to do. I decided to start off with a simple landscape of hill and a sky, but as time went on it became more and more abstract. For the elements of art I used color and value. I used a very wide range of colors in all different values. I did not want one side to be darker than the other. I wanted my painting to have a balanced look to it. I decided to start with a bottom layer of the color green, so I started with the darkest greens on the bottom and I went all the way up to the lightest greens on the top of the hills. It felt heavy toward the bottom, so I decided to add the green-yellow on top to add more balance in terms of value. I was going to blend the yellow-green in, but I ended up liking the abstract quality of the lines. I changed my plan and decided that I wanted it to be an abstract pattern so I continued to do the lines without blending them in.
