Artist Statement

These three drawings above are all for the "Space" art project, while making this project I had to focus mainly on negative space. Negative space is where you don't draw on where you would normally draw, like on the inside of the figure that you were drawing. With negative space, you draw and color along the outside of the figure that you drew instead, making the figure just look like a silhouette with a colorful and abstract background. There were three different drawings I had to draw one a zentangle drawing, so a drawing with a design made up of different patterns. In The second drawing, I had to make a shape with my hand and make a negative space drawing out of the shape. In The final drawing, I went outside to find 5 different leaves then I layed them all out on a piece of paper and traced them on another piece of paper so I could turn the layout of leaves that I had into a negative space drawing.

In all three of the drawings, I used pretty much all of the same drawings, Graphite pencils, and paper, but for the zentangle strip and the negative space hand drawing I used the same size paper, but for the negative space leaves drawing I used a bigger piece of paper and used a few more materials like colored pencils and ink pens.

I didn't go through many mental processes throughout this project because everything was fairly simple. like for the hand all I needed to do was make a figure with my hand and then draw it and shade the negative space, and it was similar to the zentangle drawing I just needed to find a silhouette and draw patterns into it. But for the negative space leaves the first thing that really came to mind was an eye, I thought this would be a cool concept because in projects before I have never really implemented an eye within in a project and that you see everything with eyes and that if you didn't have eyes you wouldn't be able to see the outside world and its problems and its benefits.
