Foundations of Art

Foundations of Art

Foundations of art was a pretty fun experience for me as I was able to expand my ability of art. Foundations taught me a lot of different types of art and how to do them, for example, Perspective. At first I had no idea how to make a proper perspective drawing but after the unit I felt like a pro. I also learned how to use tools for art purposes like wire cutters, brayers, charcoal, and others that I can't think of off the top of my head.

Throughout the school year I thought that the projects just continued to get harder and harder as I started to get into the types of art that I had never used before. Especially the wire sculpture, I didn't like the project the most because of how difficult it was. When I was first created the ten links standing it was very agitating. I tried over and over and over again trying to forge the wires together with the pliers but there was always one that was looser than the others, causing it to fall. However my favorite art to do in Foundations of art was probably most definitely using charcoal. I had always seen videos on the internet of people using charcoal to make art and I've always thought that it was just super cool and during foundations I was able to experiment with it. There are some pros and cons about charcoal, one pro was definitely how fast it made darks. For example graphite you have to push super hard and it doesn't cover as much space but with charcoal, all it takes is one swipe and you have a deep black color.

I wouldn't say exactly that my work improved through the year but I will say that my skill set widely expanded due to the amount of different types of art work I made through out the year. I realized that my strengths were definitely painting and charcoal. For the first time ,I had ever used charcoal I thought I did a pretty good job using it. Painting I've always done throughout my whole life and I've always liked painting throughout elementary and middle school and finally highs chool.

I most definitely enjoy working with ceramic art which I hope to expand my skill set in ceramic arts in the future as I've always loved the sculpt clay into art. Possibly in the future I will do other art as well but my main focus will definitely be ceramic art.
