coil and carve

I didn't remember to reflect or take picture of my progress but these are taken before I glazed the pot.

For this assignment we used a coil technique, for our coil technique. When making coils you need to roll out coils that almost look like long snakes or noodles. After have your coils, you make a flat slab for the base of your structure. For this specific coil assignment we we creates a cup or vase. My cup came out a lot larger than I had intended it to but I am now using it as a flower pot.

When creating this I didn't really have an idea intended, i also didn't know what carve out but I ended up carving long lines/striped down the side of the pot. I used a gold glaze for the entire thing, I wish I would have thought about my color choice before going into it because I wasn't too fond of the glaze I used. This pot took a while to finish because of how large I ended up making it. I was going to make it taller but didn't have enough time to. After I put the last coil I smoothed it out my cutting a thin slice from the top of the pot. The last step was to take a wooden tool and carve out the lined pattern seen above. I went for the more simplistic look, but so there is a noticeable texture. Although I didn't like my choice in glaze Im not mad about the finished product. It gives off a nice rustic antique vibe which I really like.

I wasn't necessary inspired by anything to make this, I just had fun with it since it was my first time coiling. Its of-course not my best work but I still find the outcome of the pit unique.
