multiple pinch pot

Multiple pinch pots:

For this summative we were told to create a sculpture or something out of clay that included at least 5 different pinch pots. Five pinch pots should make up the object or sculpture that you decided to make. For this project I didn't really have any particular idea in mind. I kind just let my mind set free ideas and frew them out on paper. I wanted to make something creative and colorful so I came up with the idea to make a fruit bowl. Instead of grouping the fruits into a bowl realistically I stacked three fruit on top of eachother inside a bowl. The fruits contained of an orange, strawberry, and lime.

I used clay, carving tool, and glaze to create this multiple pinch pot sculpture. For the orange and strawberry I used two pinch pots each. I created one pinch pot and then another. After I created the pinch pots I scratched and scored the edges/surface where I would combine the two pinch pots. for the lime I did the same thing except I used only one pinch pot and then made a small circular slab to represent the half cut lime. Then I used a scratching tool to make the extra details of the lime. After I made all the fruits I made an extra pinch pot which I then used as the bowl. I poked hole into each fruit to make a single air pocket, the I poked a hole through the bottom of the bowl so it wouldn't explode in while being fired. I used some tools to make a pattern and texture around the bowl and on the fruits. When looking for what glazes and colors to use I really veered towards the brighter and more pigmented colors, like reds, oranges, pinks, blues, greens, etc. Look at the pictures below to see what glazes I used.

I'm pretty proud of how this piece turned out, I love the colors, size, shapes, etc. I think Im most proud of the sculpture itself and the texture and designs that I added. I didn't think it would come out looking this sturdy and put together so i'm really proud of the way it ended up. While I did have my ups to this project some of my downs would be trying to get the glaze on nicely and perfectly without overlapping. I tried to neatly paint on the glaze but with all the small nooks, it was hard to keep the paint even. I did end up fixing most of it by going in with a smaller brush a detail brush trying to fill up the extra spots i missed or wiping of the color i may have accidentally painted over into the wrong spot.

If I could go back and fix something I would probably fix two thing first glaze it more neatly and use smoother and slower strokes (not rush), and also fix up the small details I added like the strawberry leaf and orange stem, try to make them more realistic and neat looking.

this was my sketch of what my sculpture would look like (or hoped would look like)

these are the two pinch pots I used in order to make my orange which sits at the base of the bowl.

these are also two pinch pots but these ones are for my strawberry which will lay ontop of the orange.

this is what the finished product came to be. I'm in love with the vibrantness of it.
