Artist Statement:

These are two things I made when I had extra time. The first thing was from the beginning of the semester and I decided to make a bowl with an octopus around it . I started by making a bowl using the pinch pot technique, then I made the octopus head by just rolling a ball of clay to a shape I liked, then I made the tentacles with coils and added suction cups. For the glaze I used C-20 (cobalt) to represent the water and SM-68 (orange) for the octopus. Overall I like how it came out, one thing I would do next time is make the bowl thicker.

The second thing I made was more recent and I decided to make a cup and then I added a lid. For this I rolled out a slab to make a cup shape then put that on top of another slab to make the bottom. I decided not to smooth out the ridge and leave it as it is. Then I decided to add a top and for that I also rolled out a slab then added a ridge so it could not slide around and then I added a small handle on the top. For the glaze I used PC-29 (Deep Olive Speckle) for the whole thing. Over all I really like how this turned out.
