Artist Statement:
For this project we had to design an eccentric teapot and we had to include a spout, handle and a lid. I decided to create a toucan teapot. To make the teapot I first rolled a slab then I used coils to create the shape of the teapot. Making the head was the hardest part, I made sure to make it hollow and have a hole connected to the center of the teapot since the beak is the spout. To make the beak I first made a solid form and then I hollowed it out and cut a hole at the end of it for where the tea will be poured out. Then I made the handle out of the tail. For the glazes I used HF-1 (black) for the body of the toucan, SM-11 (white) for the chest, and C-60 (marigold) for the top of the beak and HF-167 (clementine) for the bottom of the beak.
Overall I am really happy with how this turned out. I don't think I would change anything but I think it would be cool to experiment with different colors like maybe use some bright green and red for the beak.
