Artist statement:
For this project we used the coil and carve method. First I rolled out a slab of clay then I made one very long coil and then stated wrapping it around in a circle, then I smoothed out the coils and made sure the top was level. I didn't really have a plan for what I was going to do for a design so I just made up stuff as I went. The first thing I did was make indents on the bottom and top that almost reminded me of soda bottles. Then I started to make flowers by using carving tools, I decided to make half of it one design and half another, so for the other side I made different sized squares and rectangles and they are also different depths. I decided to use a color I usually don't use which is PC-4 Palladium.
I like how this turned out but I think there is a few things I could improve on. I think I could have smoothed everything out more. Also I think it would have looked better if I did one design for the whole thing. Unfortunately the glaze stuck to the kiln and the bottom broke off.
