HistoryÂ
The Olympics started around 3,000 years ago. They originated in Greece at the Greek sporting festivals hosted at the many famous cities in Greece, played every 4 years from August through September. The Olympics eventually became so popular and important to the culture that it was a must that they would have to be hosted for the fans of the games. Greece is very known for their Greek Mythology where they honor many gods and stories that are from the myths, which is a main reason why the Olympics are hosted. The Greeks played it in honor of Zeus, who is the father of the Olympians. Due to this, they were held in Olympia, Greece.
Let The Games Begin
In 776 B.C, the first games were hosted. Some of the games are still around today. There was Swimming, Track-And-Field, Wrestling, Fencing, Archery, Races, Javelin throw, Fighting, etc. Even During ancient wars, because of the popularity back then, truces would be held so that the men could be able to participate. They were very wild, Some of the games that would be hosted could have brutal combat. You could break peoples hands but it would be prohibited if very brutal things would happen, like biting somebody or damaging their eye in a bad way. Sometimes you could beat your opponent to death, very fun. Running was a very loved sport of the Olympics. The first recorded winner of the runs was Coroebus of Elis, a fast greek cook that won the sprint and took home the medal. If you won the sports, you would be awarded with a leaf laurel wreath and great honor. Today, we get awarded with a medal and bragging rights for our country. Yay!
Future and More
Years forward, new cities and new sports would be added. The games started to become worldwide and known all over the place. It showed a greatness and honor that would be presented. Till this day, we look forward to seeing the people of our country represent us and show our country's strength. Now what I wonder is what it will be like in the future.
