Time Warp
By Ariadna Goodman
As my dad came through the door my heart leaped with joy as I ran to him, dropping the toy I was using to play with my sister and hugged him with all my might, almost knocking him back. “He is home” I thought as my mom poked her head out after just finishing putting Mia down for a nap and said you seem happy, the both of you and then I saw my dads face with a long grin stretched across his face and he looked so happy he could burst. He crouched down and said that life is going to change. At first I didn't know what he ment and then he yelled out “Family meeting”. We all sat down and dad started to explain that a man named John Wight offered our family to go to the new world. “What?” I thought as my dad talked about the wonders of the new world and how we can live there “No we can't know what about Mia. She is only 2. How can she survive in this so-called new world and who is this John White person?” As I felt worry filling my head I heard my dad say the island is called Roanoke and we were going to start a colony there and I saw as my fate closed my moms head started to nod as if I liked it or not we were going.
“Go pack your bags," said my mom. While taking the offer as I walked to my bed I thought about what was going to be there, what if there were already people there, would they hurt us, how would we defend ourselves. We could get sick before we get there but when I saw Mia sleeping I knew I had to be strong for her. I started thinking about the wonders my dad talked about the plants, the fresh start we would get and the glory too. I packed everything I had it was not that much since my family was very poor I packed 4 parts of clothing and a cotton ball that my dad gave me for my 5th b-day I could never sleep without it and placed them all in a rag which I sling over my back and headed toward the door. I heard my sister cry as she was woken up by my mom and dad and said it would take about an hour before we got there. We do not live near the coast but when we got there I saw the big ship and many people awaiting us. I knew that once I stepped on that there was no going back.
