MSA VAPOR DETECT NON-FUNCTIONAL 40% OF THE TIME
Quoted from the Command and Control Book by Eric Schlosser. These are Not Schlosser's words but the reports words he read. THESE ARE NOT MY WORDS EITHER! This maybe an exaggerated story for congress but, none the less, it is in " The Titan II Weapon System Review Group" document prepared for congress.
However, it still is a fact, based on emails from USAF MSA vapor detection calibration Techs, that the MSA system was not calibrated or tested for the UDMH fuel OSHA requirement of .5 ppm TWA or any safety factor for that matter. The lowest UDMH calibration done on the MSA vapor detection system was at 10 ppm. This USAF health and safety issue has to be questioned by all who worked on the leaking Titan II missiles. MSA CALIBRATION AND ACCURACY EMAILS
"The Titan II Weapon System Review Group report was prepared for members of Congress. The report contained a number of criticisms and a long list of recommendations for making the missile safer. It said that the vapor detectors in Titan II silos were broken 40 percent of the time, that the portable vapor detectors rarely worked."
