3.6. Pesticides and Herbicides According to interviews with F.E. Warren AFB personnel, during active operation of the LF, the Subject Property was kept sterile via the use of common pesticides and herbicides. Pesticides have been used to control various pests (e.g., bees, ants, spiders, flies, and mice). Herbicides were used to eliminate grass and weeds (e.g., crab grasses, dandelions, and poison ivy). Following the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, Agent Orange broadleaf control was used as an herbicide for approximately 2 years. After approximately 1977, F.E. Warren AFB used Krovar® or Bromacil, a soil sterilant, and Roundup™ broadleaf control for weed management. These herbicides were used on an “as-needed” basis and were not stored on the Subject Property. According to F.E. Warren AFB personnel, the Subject Property has not been sprayed with herbicides or pesticides since it was deactivated in 2004. Since 2004, weeds and grass have been mechanically controlled with occasional mowing.
