This morning I woke up thinking about my brother Bruce, and Lisa, who he will marry today. Bruce asked me if would pray for them during the reception so I began to think about that prayer. While I showered, I meditated on love and began to pray from my spirit:
Lord, I praise you for the wonders of your creation—all the beauty and astonishing marvels of the universe and life on this earth—especially humanity, even me.
Perhaps the greatest marvel of your creation is love.
Thank you for the love we felt as children for our parents and caregivers.
Thank you for the love shared between intimate friends.
Thank you for the love of family.
Thank you for the powerful love we experience as parents and the hint that gives us of your love for us.
Thank you especially for romantic love, that magical, surprising gift we find when you bring a man and woman together to partner in that most exclusive and elusive form of love.
Thank you for blessing Bruce and Lisa with that love and the way it reveals the miraculous multiplication power you built into love. That love can bring together two groups of people—friends and family who otherwise never would have known each other—and in an instant we share a bond of fellowship as we celebrate a unity created by love. Let this be a reminder that when we love others it spreads and touches lives in ways we can’t even imagine, making the world a better place.
Above all, Lord, I thank you for the greatest love, your love. Thank you for loving us even when we rebel against you. Thank you for forgiving us when we turn back to you.
Thank you for your perfect example that we can follow and forgive others, even ourselves. That when we mess up our lives and bring pain to ourselves and others—even those we love the most—you forgive us and continue to bless us!
Now Lord, I ask you to bless Bruce and Lisa with your love, and may that love flow through them to bless countless others.
Amen
