Too many goblins, too few guards.

Most of us that have visited Thorin's Halls have likely passed by the holding cells a hundred times without noticing them much.

When the Longbeards reclaimed the former Hall of one of their most honoured hero's these very holding cells were filled with Dourhands.

One would think, now that those days are behind us, the cells would be empty once more.

Yet, nothing is further from the truth. Goblins have been seen attacking dwarves near the many mines around Thorin's Halls.

And senior guard-dwarves like Rúni Lockhand have never been busier locking them up.

We spoke to Rúni at the holdings cells and this is what he had to say about the recent surge of goblins in the Blue Mountains:

"It is tiring work, seeing after these foul creatures, I can tell you that. Quiet down in there!

Curse these goblins, we treat them better than they deserve. Captured these just yesterday prowling about the halls."

Were they planning on attacking the Halls?

"This lot? I would say not... youngsters these are. You should have seen them trying to run away when we spotted them.

A regiment of goblins wouldn't dare attack these halls, let alone a few of these foul-skinned rakhâs-bagdusrân."

At that the goblins in the holding cell started a dreadful screeching. Rúni marched quickly toward the cell and started yelling:

"Be quiet fool, or I will come in there myself! You see, never a days rest here at the holding cells.

These days we don't even have the time to have our lunch, we need to sit by the cell from dawn till dusk and bring our food with us.

Not enough of us guards you know, too many of these foul creatures, that's the problem."

When we later inquired with Lord Dwalin if additional guards would be sent from Erebor to assist against the current goblin threat, Lord Dwalin responded by saying:

"These days Erebor has bigger problems than a few goblins. The guards will have to make due, like all of us".
