-Brimi Swifteye reporting from the Harnkegger Games IV-
Day 1 of the Harnkegger Games saw three events on the schedule, two races and a run on hot coals at the forges.
The excitement was overwhelming as a haras of horses stormed down the steps of Thorin's Halls during the Harnkegger Race, the traditional opening race of the games. Your humble reported counted no less than 52 riders in this event.
As you can imagine the finish was extremely close, taking the judges several minutes before declaring the winner of the event, a hobbit named Volko. Though his pony was clearly exhausted, I have no doubt both master Volko and his pony will be able to feast a very long time on 1000 Tasty Pies ((TP)), not to mention all the things they can buy with the 3 gold winnings. Second was a dwarf named Fredskald, who had plans to make a lasting mark on this day. And lastly, the man by the name of Balfrith taking home the bronze for the Nation of Men.
In the next event 38 competitors attempted to run as fast as they could over hot coals in the Fire Run Jump. Saying the race was a close one would be an understatement, as places 1 to 3 were divided by mere fractions of seconds. In the end the Dwarf Gildoin took home the honours, adding another 3 points to the tally of the Nation of Dwarves, with a record 8 seconds and 22. A very honorable mention go to the hobbit lass Hollyberye who took home the silver and the Dwarf Hadsi, a kinbrother of Fredskald, taking home the bronze.
The final event of the day, the Broken Bone Race, saw 33 competitors rearing to go at the Thorin's Halls Gates. It must be said, though master Strongbeard did his utmost to explain the checkpoints that had to be past, many confused looks were present with the racers. That being said, the dwarves of the Blue Mountains Regiment looked extremely focused and it was beyond doubt they had well scouted the terrain. As the race was approaching the first Check Point at Gondamon the vast majority of the riders seemed to take a path far away from the check point, earning uncountable competitors disqualification. The lads of the Blue Mountains Regiment however had no doubt of the course to be taken and stormed passed steward Khlosi at the first checkpoint. Oblivious of their error the other competitors continued to bolt to the finish line. There, to their surprise they were informed of their disqualification for not adhering to the rules of the race. What the boys in the shiny hauberks no longer expected happened... though they came in far behind the others, as they were the only ones to run the race according to the rules they were given Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Fredskald taking his second medal of the day, this time a gold one. A glorious day for the Blue Mountain Regiment, winning 5 of out 9 medals on day 1 and by doing so firmly placing the Nation of Dwarves in the lead.
