--By Brimi Swifteye -- After fifteen events and seven record-breaking days, the annual Harnkegger Games came to a dazzling end this Sunday. For the second time in history the coveted Harnkegger Title went to a dwarf, this time round it was master Alhvar of The Blue Mountains Regiment that earned the honour. The Harnkegger Games Committee prized master Alhvar for his exemplary performance both on and away from the field of competition, honouring the values of the Harnkegger Games like few others. The Harnkegger Nation competition was exciting till the very last moment, the Dwarves holding on to their lead by one single point (40), while the Nation of Men came in Second (39) and the Nation of Hobbits third (35). For the first time ever not one single medal was won by the Elves, earning them an embarrassing zero points in the final standings. After all prizes were handed out, including the prize for Hero of the Harnkegger Nation, going to master Gildoin, the Rolling Kegs treated the audience to the closing ceremony concert.
Master Strongbeard, the chair of the Harnkegger Games Committee, spoke to the Tablets of Khazadgund in an exclusive interview and had this to say... “They have truly been unbelievable games, record breaking ones to say the least. Not only did we hand out the largest hoard of prizes ever provided in the history of the Games... but we had record breaking attendances for almost all events. It does the heart good to see so many free folk take joy in these games. I must thank all those of Durin’s Folk and the Shire Angling Club that made this possible.” When asked about the rumour that these were the last Harnkegger Games master Kandral first smiled mysteriously then chuckled and without uttering a word mounted his pony and disappeared in the night toward Thorin’s Halls.
