Disgruntled Othrikar miners head to Moria

It has been calm in Othrikar for a few months now, since the forced closing of the GMC-mines. Too calm for the likes of some of the former GMC miners. Though all welcomed the news of the sentencing of the Goldthumb Mining Company boss, some whispered that the Longbeards in Thorin’s Hall gave no thought to the livelihood of the former GMC miners. Even though the miners receive a royal severance package when their GMC contracts were declared void by judge Hammerfall, quite a few of the miners regretted no thought was given to their future.

Dromi Steelhammer, a former GMC pit-boss had this to say on the matter: “We were given a nice sum, I won’t say otherwise. But there is no work here anymore. Most of the mines here are closed and those that are open have no vacancies. The package we got won’t last forever you know.”

Dromi and six of his companions were determined to leave the town and seek riches of old in Moria, using the remainder of their coin to form their own company, which they’ve dubbed: “the Dwarrowdelf Expedition of Miners of Othrikar in the North-downs”, “DEMON” for short.

“We’ve heard of incredible riches in the Dwarrowdelf of old and some miners from Thorin’s Hall heading there. We think we are entitled to the same. We can’t just sit here do nothing and watch our last coin fly off in the wind”, spoke one of the miners. “Or have inexperience miners grab all the mithril”, spoke another.

When this reporter asked the miners if they weren’t afraid of the dangers of Moria, their leader Dromi said: “When you’ve been a miner under the hand of Goldthumb, you don’t scare easily. We’ll bring our mattocks and axes too, just in case, but our aim is to get to the Mithril.”.

As we saw their caravan depart to Moria, for a moment Othrikar felt like the abandoned mines of the town itself. Only the sound of weeping women-folk and a few miners mingled with the North wind. We wish the lads of DEMON well, may their name not be an omen of what they’ll find in the deeps.
