We caught up with Uzbad Kandral's daughter, Thrandili, in the market to ask her just what she wore a few moons ago at her fabulous wedding to Byli Brokenspear. Everyone wants to know, especially as only the great and good were allowed to attend and they're not talking.
Her shoulder length brown hair was worn loose, apart from a few plaits adorned with light amber beads and rings, the plait ends bound with golden wire. Only a few small emeralds, artfully attached with twisted wire, nestled in her short, fluffy beard.
She honoured the old tradition of wearing 'something from your family, something from my family, and something for each Dwarven alliance', which in our modern times included other racial alliances also.
However, she departed from the custom of wearing a wedding robe, choosing instead to create a richly embroidered gown woven of finest deep gold goat wool, and bordered at the bottom with contrasting bands of red and green silk brocade embroidered with ram's horns to represent her family's force. This fine silk was a gift from Men and had been imported at great cost from Harad. The bodice was set with variously coloured seed pearls from the Elves - white, cream, grey, pale blue - and laced with gold silk ribbons.

Beneath this gown, she wore multi-tiered deep red petticoats, a glimpse of which could be seen through the lacing of the bodice and near the floor as she danced.
Beneath the petticoats was a soft cream silk chemise, the lace borders threaded with white ribbons.
Her belt was of of hammered bronze links alternately hung with amber pendants and sapphire drops on gold chains. The black dragon bone buckle was set with one enormous ruby.
She wore over her robe a heavy cloak of darkest blue velvet lined with white rabbit fur and bordered in gold leaf, the deep hood framed with long silver lynx fur, with her father's many titles embroidered on the back in shining mithril thread.
Short boots of young auroch leather were sturdy enough to last through many nights of dancing, yet dainty in fashion as befitted a young bride.
Around her neck glittered the necklace she was given by Buhni, her mother, passed down from mother to daughter for many generations, and crafted from emeralds, topaz and gold, the gems cut in the old fashioned way, large and multi-faceted to reflect the light. Thrandili wore this with great pride, remembering all the maidens who wore it on their wedding days over the centuries.
In her ears were emerald teardrops in gold fireburst settings, and up her arms she wore heavy bangles, each carved from a single piece of amber, in both light and dark hues.
The only rings she had are those that Byli made for her of mithril and zircons, worth all of her other jewellery put together.
She rode to the wedding halls bearing the great two-handed axe made for her by Bytr, Byli's brother, as a symbol of protection by her new Brokenspear family.
And there you have it! We are unlikely to see a wedding to rival this one ever again, and YOU WERE THERE thanks to The Tablets of Khazadgund.
