percy bysshe shelley's "love's philosophy"

a romantic, a lover, and a bit of a scamp, you're quite capable of caring deeply for someone ... and someone else, and someone else. serially, or simultaneously. it's not that you're fickle, necessarily: you just like to spread a good thing around a bit. you're ... generous, let's say. and why not? so many people find you to be such good company. you're clever and playful, charming, unpredictable, and devastatingly self-confident. is it any wonder that so many of us fall in love with you? even your detractors -- and, let's face it, you have a few, even if it's simply because they're jealous of you -- have to (however grudgingly) admit that you mean well. there's truly not an unkind bone in your body ... and if your wit might sometimes seem to disprove that, it's merely careless and not intentional. and there's hope for you: eventually, given your good mind, you'll come to understand that a thoughtlessly fired shot, when it hits a target, is just as painful as one that's carefully aimed, and perhaps you'll keep your safety on. you may even learn to be faithful.

The fountains mingle with the river

And the rivers with the ocean,

The winds of Heaven mix for ever

With a sweet emotion;

Nothing in the world is single,

All things by a law divine

In one spirit meet and mingle -

Why not I with thine?

See the mountains kiss high Heaven

And the waves clasp one another;

No sister-flower would be forgiven

If it disdained its brother;

And the sunlight clasps the earth,

And the moonbeams kiss the sea -

What are all these kissings worth

If thou kiss not me?
