Sub Sandwich

This is one of my daughter's favorites!!

2 pkgs (11 oz) refrigerated French bread dough          Italian dressing

3 cloves crushed garlic                                             1 med onion, thinly sliced

½ tsp each: dried oregano and dried basil                 1 med green bell pepper, thinly sliced

8 oz thinly sliced deli meat such as:                           1 tomato, thinly sliced

(hard salami, bologna, ham or turkey breast)              1 small can sliced black olives

4 oz thinly sliced cheese such as:

(Muenster, Swiss, American or Provolone)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place dough, seams side down on a cookie sheet (if you have stoneware, I highly recommend it.)  Using a serrated bread knife, cut six to eight diagonal slashes (1/2 inch deep) on top of dough. Lightly spray dough with vegetable oil. Spread crushed garlic over dough; spread evenly. Sprinkle with oregano and basil. Bake 26-30 minutes or until deep golden brown. Let cool.

To assemble sandwich, cut bread in half horizontally using a serrated bread knife. Spread top half with mayonnaise. Arrange meat and cheese evenly over bottom half of bread. Top with onion, bell pepper and tomato slices; sprinkle with olives. Drizzle Italian dressing over all. Place top half over bottom half. Cut into wedges and serve.
