Gone are the days when having soft skills were regarded as weakness and inability to lead effectively. Experts in the field say that in today’s world, soft skills are more integral than knowing how to code. People skills such as teaching and emotional intelligence are invaluable in the current work environment. Often, communication skills are considered as having the capacity to speak publicly with confidence. However, the most effective communicators know that communication is a two-way street, which requires them to be great listeners as well. It is not enough to have the ability to articulate one’s ideas well, says Ram Chary Everi. One must give another their undivided attention while suppressing judgments and being considerate of other people’s opinions.
Managers must be lead people into an avenue where exchanging ideas is normal to form new relationships and strengthen existing ones. When employees know and feel that they are being listened to, the easier a leader can manage and create a productive workplace. In times when leaders have to be bearers of bad news, they must do it in person, not through email. Effective business leaders take responsibility and encourage an open dialogue with their team regarding the news.
According to Ram Chary Everi, effective leaders are the best team players, the most flexible, the most effective communicator, and the default troubleshooter. Their leadership will set an example for the new leaders to follow.
