Professional tennis players can be seen playing in the fairways during off season. It’s their way to relax while staying in great mental state, as both sports require much focus. The posture in tennis enables players to quickly adjust to the movement in golf. The swinging of the racket and the waiting on the opponent’s serve have similarities in swinging a club.
14-time Grand Slam winner Pete Sampras said that if he hadn’t pursued tennis as a professional career, he would have been a professional golfer. He mentioned that an athlete can play golf for 30 years, compared to tennis, where a career lasts for 10-12 years before an athlete’s body takes a pounding.

Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray are among the players in the the ATP Rankings who are playing golf either during exhibitions or off days. In an attempt to keep his back healthy, Andy Murray doesn’t play golf as much as the other two. Novak, however, took time to seek guidance from top European golfers regarding his improvement in the fairways. His racket sponsor, Head, even made an advertisement with him and Maria Sharapova playing golf using their rackets and some tennis balls.
World No.1 Rafael Nadal and retired tennis favorite Andy Roddick are considered to be spending more time in the fairways than Murray and Djokovic. Nadal has his favorite courses around California which he frequents during the Indian Wells Masters event. Being in Indian Wells allows him to play golf once the matches are over. Following Andy Roddick’s tennis retirement is his caddieing gig for Zach Johnson. Sports fans quickly noticed how the athlete is a fast learner ever since they saw him hit a tee during a tournament.
