Halfway through the NFL’s 2018 season, there are two players who have run away from the pack and established themselves as the league’s best this year. There is still a lot of football to be played, and anything can change in the MVP race in the following weeks, but below are the two candidates who have proven a cut above the field:
Patrick Mahomes
The young quarterback is one of the main reasons the Kansas City Chiefs have won seven of their first eight games this year. At just 23 years old, the gunslinger has already posted several league and franchise records and currently leads all quarterbacks in plenty stats this season. Mahomes is on pace to surpass the MVP performances of Tom Brady in 2007 and Peyton Manning in 2013, which are considered two of the greatest quarterback seasons ever. To say that Mahomes has been dominating this year would be an understatement.
Todd Gurley The Los Angeles Rams started the season with guns blazing, winning all of their first eight games. Running back Todd Gurley is a huge reason for that. Not only has he rushed for 11 touchdowns already, he is rushing at a very efficient rate. If the 24-year-old Gurley does not win the MVP this season, he will still have plenty of chances in the following years. His quarterback partner, Jared Goff, is still only 24 years old and continuing to improve as a playmaker, which will provide Gurley more opportunities to shine in the future.
